What is Osteopathy and How Can It Help?

What is Osteopathy and How Can It Help?

Osteopathic physicians (or DO's, Doctor of Osteopathy) believe there’s more to good health than the absence of pain or disease. It is a whole-person approach to hands-on care. Osteopathy is a distinct branch of medicine that emphasizes the interrelated unity of all systems in the body, each working with the other to heal in times of illness.

One key idea in Osteopathy is that many diseases result from, or cause, problems within the body's musculoskeletal system, which includes nerves, muscles, and bones. Our Osteopath, Dr. John Reed, is trained to pay extra attention to how all your body parts work together in order to prevent or treat health issues.

Typical Conditions Treated By An Osteopathic Physician:

Osteopathic medicine is about your whole body, not just specific parts or symptoms. For example, a patient that presents with something like knee pain, we're going to look at more than just your knee, as there's likely something else happening that is contributing to the pain you are having. Dr. John is trained in osteopathic manipulative treatment, sometimes called manual manipulation or OMT. That's a hands-on method to help diagnose and treat illnesses.
