6 Beliefs that Disconnect Us From Our Divine Source

6 Beliefs that Disconnect Us From Our Divine Source

I recently discovered Dr. Wayne Dyer's book (and audio book), The Power of Intention. The book was published in 2004, but you know how they say when the student is ready, the teacher appears. I have been contemplating how to be more spiritually aligned with my business and marketing and how to incorporate that into our new program.

I found the answers in this book. Dr. Dyer offers a different definition of Intention -not the commonly held belief that Intention is a kind of steadfast determination that propels one to succeed at all costs. Instead he describes Intention as a force in the universe that allows the act of creation to take place. Not as something you do, but as an energy field you are a part of and can access to begin co-creating your life (and business).

He explains that when we activate intention, it means we are rejoining our Source. When we do this, we are able to access an awareness that was not previously available. When you activate intention, you'll begin to feel purpose in your life, and you'll be guided by your infinite self.

In this book, Dr. Dyer explores the reasons we experience ourselves as being disconnected from our Omnipresent Source. First of all, we believe we're separated from it. How did we lose our natural ability to connect to it?

Dr. Dyer explains that with our higher brain functions (than plants and animals), we have an ego -an idea we construct about who and what we are. By allowing your ego to determine your life path, you deactivate the power of intention. Dr. Dyer describes 6 ego beliefs that make us feel separate from our Divine Source and which are prevalent in our society.

1. I am what I have. My possessions define me.

2. I am what I do. My achievements define me.

3. I am what others think of me. My reputation defines me.

4. I am separate from everyone. My body defines me as alone.

5. I am separate from all that is missing in my life. My life space is disconnected from my desires.

6. I am separate from God. My life depends on God's assessment of my worthiness.

Dr. Dyer has written more extensively about these 6 Ego beliefs in his book called Your Sacred Self. He points out that Intention can't be accessed through the ego. When we're able to weaken the hold our ego has on our life, we can seek intention and maximize our potential.

Dr. Dyer describes 4 Stages in the process to activate your power of intention.

1. Discipline - Learning a new task or skill -training your body to activate your desires with practice, exercise, nontoxic habits, healthy foods, etc.

2. Wisdom - Discipline plus Wisdom allows you to focus and be patient as you harmonize your thoughts, intellect, and feelings with your work.

3. Love - "After disciplining your body with wisdom, and intellectually studying a task, this process of mastery involves loving what you do and doing what you love. In terms of business, it means falling in love with what you're offering, and selling your love and enthusiasm to potential customers."

4. Surrender -this is the place of intention. "This is where your body and mind aren't running the show and you move into intent. When you surrender, you allow yourself to be carried by the same power that turns acorns into oak trees. You lighten up and can consult with your infinite soul and the power of intention becomes available to you to take you wherever you feel destined to go."
